Roust Element is experiencing such high demand for prefabricated element construction that the company is expanding capacity on all production lines and automating parts of its production. We delivered the insulation bridge that automates their cassette production.
Growth that requires more than just more square metres
The construction industry is demanding more prefabricated timber buildings due to the green transition and stricter LCA requirements for new construction. Roust Element therefore consolidated 30,000 square metres of production under one roof and increased capacity for roof and floor cassettes by 50 percent, facade and partition wall lines by approximately 33 percent, and timber cutting by 100 percent.
But more space doesn't solve everything. Blowing insulation into the cassettes was still a manual, repetitive task that set the pace for the entire cassette flow.
We have a strategy to further scale our business in the coming years, and that requires having the right environment for it.
An insulation bridge that automates cassette production
We built an insulation bridge for Roust Element's cassette line, so the blowing of insulation happens automatically across the entire cassette. The system was designed, produced, and commissioned by us and is adapted to the production environment it operates in.
Because the control system and software are our own, the system can be adjusted as the structure and volume of the cassettes change—without Roust Element having to go through a new integration process each time.
How the solution is put together
Automatic blowing
The insulation bridge automatically blows insulation into the cassettes, so employees no longer have to crawl around and do it manually.
Built for the line
The system is adapted to Roust Element's own cassette production line instead of being a standard line that production has to conform to.
More in less time
Automation removes a bottleneck in the cassette flow, allowing production to keep up with the growing demand for timber construction.
Upskilled employees
Manual repetitive tasks have been replaced by more versatile workflows and more responsibility for the employees who previously did the work by hand.
Automatic cassette production—and better workflows
The insulation bridge has been successfully put into operation, and cassette production now runs automatically. In addition to the increased pace, automation has changed the work on the factory floor: employees who previously had highly manual and repetitive tasks have been upskilled and given more responsibility.
Roust Element plans more automation projects in the coming years—the same direction we are working in: automate what is heavy and repetitive, and let employees use their professional skills on the rest.
We have had an insulation bridge built, so our cassette production will now be automatic. We have already successfully put it into use and look forward to seeing how much more we can increase production by in the future.
